This video released by authorities in St. Johns, Arizona shows an 8 year old boy initially denying having been involved in the death of his father and his father's friend and then ultimately admitting to shooting each man at least twice and reloading the .22 caliber rifle.

During the interview, the boy's accounts of the shootings change from him never having touched a gun, to throwing one he found in the home in a closet, to shooting at a car he said was speeding away from the house.

Metro Detroit Cops Jobs Tied to Tickets

Police officers in Metro   Detroit are often ordered to write a certain number of moving violations -- but chiefs issuing those edicts are careful not to use the "Q" word.

"Nobody likes to call them quotas, but that's exactly what they are," Trenton Police Sgt. Richard Lyons said. "When you're being told how many tickets you need to write, to me that's a quota."

State lawmakers banned ticket quotas in 1979, but in 1988 an exception was written into the Motor Vehicle Code that allows the number of tickets written to be used in evaluations of traffic enforcement officers, as long as ticket writing is weighed equally among other job criteria.

Rapist Foiled by iPod Charger

A Staten Island New York woman recently defeated a serial rapist using an Ipod Charger.

According to the Staten Island Advance, 23-year-old Thomas Fields, who has two previous convictions for rape and was released just a year ago from prison, approached a young lady who was walking home from a friends house.

Fields then grabbed the woman in a choke hold and dragged her behind a church. The woman was able to fight back against Fields by stabbing him repeatedly in the neck with an iPod charger (pictured at left).

Fields got away from the scene, but was recently picked up by authorities on a tip. Fields was picked out of a lineup by the victim which might not have been terribly difficult since he still bore the twin bruises from the iPod charger being jammed into his neck.

Take whatever you want...except my laptop

In other news, a law student at Arizona State University Alex Botsios was awakened recently by a baseball bat wielding robber who snuck in through an open window.

Alex said he was more than willing to part with his wallet and guitars, but when the robber, Gabriel Saucedo, went for Alex's laptop and the four months of course work inside he went too far.

"I was like, 'Dude, no -- please, no!" Botsios said. "I have all my case notes…that's four months of work!"

"I basically grabbed him and threw him this way, and he held onto the bat so it threw him to the ground," Bostios told KTAR.com.

Police said they took Saucedo to the hospital for stitches before they arrested him on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping. Other than a bruised knuckle and a few scratches, Botsios was unharmed.

"It's my baby," Bostios said. "Don't mess with my computer."

craigslist minister

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A minister who married a couple in 2007 then stole $1,500 of their wedding gifts has been fined and sentenced to two years bench probation.

Shey-Rima Silveria married Kitty and Shawn Sonnenschein in their Portland back yard with 75 to 100 guests present. She then took home a stack of Home Depot gift cards the couple had requested for remodeling their kitchen.

The couple met Silveria, then of Newberg, through Craigslist.

Portland police spotted her on a surveillance tape using some of the cards in Sherwood.

She mailed in her plea from her new home in Washington and was ordered to pay $1,500 in restitution and a $300 fine.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Police say a Connecticut man playing police officer picked the wrong person to pull over.

Israel Gomez was arrested Tuesday after pulling over an off-duty Hartford police lieutenant.

Police say 20-year-old Gomez turned on flashing lights and used a siren and loudspeaker to coax police Lt. Ronald Bair off the road.

Bair called for backup, and officers arrested Gomez and 20-year-old Esteban Cardona.

Gomez is charged with impersonating a police officer, reckless driving and improper use of red flashing lights. Cardona, who was driving another car involved in the bogus traffic stop, is charged with reckless driving.

They were released on written promises to appear in court. The court says their dockets do not list attorneys.

Officer Down in a Kill Zone....What's your next Move?

force_science.jpgThe latest news brief from the Force Science Center addresses just that.

Over the last 6 months, Dr. Matthew Sztajnkrycer, a "SWAT doc" from Minnesota, has exposed some 150 officers to this stressful and revealing training exercise:

A patrol officer, answering a domestic violence call, is shot down as he exits his unit. Officers responding to 911 calls from the scene observe him slumped in a seated position behind his car, not moving. To reach him, they must leave cover and cross more than 75 feet of open ground. The unlocated gunman potentially still controls the kill zone.

What should they do?

Overwhelmingly, what they do, Sztajnkrycer has found, is take immediate action that puts them at great risk but does not necessarily benefit the wounded victim.

Robert Dwayne Echols

Danica Flournoy

According to this Grand Rapids Press article, Robert Dwayne Echols charged into a Holland area apartment Danica Flournoy shared with her mother at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday and asked her, "Where's my money?"

According to witness Julia Anderson, who was in the apartment at the time this occured, Echols did not wait for an answer before he shot Danica Flournoy in the head. Echols then fled the scene.

Officials have said that Holland City Police Department Officers then went to the Grand Rapids area searching for Echols at his home and the home of an associate on the south east side of Grand Rapids.

Reports indicate that a Grand Rapids Police Department Officer saw a subject matching Echols description running through a cemetary and chased him to a nearby apartment complex where the man, believed to be Echols, shot himself in the face as three officers ordered him to the ground.
